A quick project and branching out

November 11th, 2015

So, two things:

One, I had a request by r/SWRPG user nvcradio to convert a one-shot character sheet (from One Shot First) into a standalone sheet. It would have been easy enough to just pull out the page from the master MS Word file and distribute it as a Word doc, but I really wanted to make something with fillable forms, so I decided to tap the Acrobat subscription that’s sitting untouched on my Creative Cloud account. (I discovered to my chagrin, a few hours in, that MS Word can indeed make fillable forms for .pdf export. Whoops.)

So I learned a little bit about Acrobat, which was nice, and did several hours worth of research on its scripting API. I put together a pretty nifty interactive .pdf one-page character sheet, which is gold-plated to the moon and back, and you can find it over on the Miscellaneous page.

Also of note is the tentative step I’ve made into producing some more generic assets. Over at the Roll20 Marketplace, you can see the large tileset I put together as a “testing the waters” for making large generic asset packs. It’s not quite as fun as making Star Wars stuff, but it was a nice side project, and (critically?) I can actually sell something like that. We’ll see how that shakes out.

In the mean time, I’ve got a large project in the pipes that should hopefully be visible around the end of the year (boy, that’s coming fast!), so keep an eye out.
